DOHA: The Al Jazeera Media Network has plans to launch a new dedicated sports news channel next month, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera Sports News is slated to launch on November 1. The channel will broadcast hourly bulletins and 20 sports news programs that will cover a range of sports. The news programs will spotlight all the major international tournaments and sports events, with an emphasis on those exclusive to Al Jazeera Sports, such as the Spanish, Italian, French and European football leagues. Al Jazeera Sports News will also feature weekly programs that present news about popular sports like basketball, tennis and motorsports.

While Arab sports’ news will have a prominent presence on the new channel, two programs will be dedicated to covering events in the Middle East and North Africa. General and economic sports news in the press will also be covered. A morning variety show and daily talk show are on the grid as well, with a daily hour-long wrap-up program, Today’s Harvest, to cap off the broadcast schedule.
