A+E Networks Names SVP of International Programming

NEW YORK: A+E Networks has promoted Christian Murphy to senior VP of international programming and marketing from VP of international.

In his new role, Murphy will manage the international program catalogue, production, brand strategy and marketing for the network’s international division. He and his team will be responsible for A+E Networks’ international content catalogue, which includes 9,000 hours, with roughly 900 new hours added each year. Murphy will oversee local teams on programming, production, scheduling and acquisition strategies. In addition, he will be responsible for international production activities and acquisitions for channels outside of the U.S.

Murphy joined AETN in 2008; he was previously a general manager of television and marketing at FOXTEL Management for eight years, where he served in a number of senior executive positions in a range of roles, including channel management and broadcast operation, new channel launches, affiliate distribution and ad sales, among others.

Sean Cohan, the senior VP of international for A+E Networks, to whom he will report, said of the promotion: “Christian is truly passionate about television, and since joining AETN, he has proven to be an invaluable member of the A+E Networks’ international management team. Over the past three years, he has spearheaded a myriad of successful programming, marketing and sales initiatives.
