VH1 Takes Anvil! The Story of Anvil

NEW YORK: VH1 has acquired the exclusive rights for the documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, and will handle the TV and DVD release and distribute the film theatrically in association with Abramorama.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil follows Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner and their band, Anvil, which released one of the heaviest albums in metal history. While the album went on to influence a whole musical generation of rock bands, Anvil themselves disappeared into obscurity.

The world television premiere on VH1 this summer and the subsequent DVD release of the film will follow a multiplatform promotional campaign supporting the theatrical film release, set for April 10 in New York and Los Angeles. A further U.S. rollout will follow.

"This film is so much more than a documentary about the roots of metal," said Tom Calderone, the president of VH1. "It’s a story about the power of perseverance and friendship and the passion that drives them. Anvil! The Story of Anvil has a huge heart and will resonate with all of our viewers. This is the type of project that drew me into the VH1 fold and makes me especially proud to work here."
