Sesame Street Bangladesh Set for Fifth Season

DHAKA/NEW YORK: Sisimpur, an original Bangladeshi adaptation of Sesame Street and the first locally produced educational children’s series for the region, has gone into production for a fifth season.

Sesame Workshop and Nayantara Communications are working on 52 new half-hour episodes to premiere this summer on Bangladesh Television (BTV). This latest season will feature new puppets, including fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby and Shanto, the nephew of neighborhood shop owners. Additional highlights this season include the characters working as a team to prepare for Tuktuki’s participation in a kite festival and new animations featuring an eraser and pencil that encourage children to practice their reading and writing skills.

"When the teams from Nayantara and Sesame Workshop first met in 2004 to brainstorm ideas for what would become the number one children’s series in Bangladesh—a tiger, a jackal, a colorful tree-lined neighborhood—we could not have predicted nor dreamed of achieving such great success," said Sara Zaker, the project head of Nayantara Communications. "It is an honor to have been reaching children with innovative and relevant content that has kept them laughing and learning for the past five years. We are dedicated to remaining fresh and modern in order to reach children for the next five."
