MGM, Weigel Score THIS TV Clearances

LAS VEGAS: MGM Domestic Television and Weigel Broadcasting have passed the 60-percent clearance mark on their new digital TV service for local stations, delivering movies and TV series from the MGM library.

Key stations from Tribune Broadcasting Company have signed up as affiliates for THIS TV, alongside Raycom Media, Sunbeam Television and Quincy Newspapers. These latest deals follow previous station affiliation deals with Fisher Communications, Hearst-Argyle Television, Post-Newsweek Stations and Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Announcing the clearances, John Bryan, the executive VP of broadcast strategy for MGM, said: "In this tough and challenging environment, the broadcasting community is enthusiastically responding to our THIS TV digital platform. We are pleased that such leading broadcasters as Tribune, Raycom, Sunbeam and Quincy are investing in this programming alternative, which is already resonating with viewers across the country. With quality films and TV programs from MGM’s rich library, we’re providing an economically viable turn-key programming service for local markets."
