SPTI Secures New Markets for Dragons’ Den

LONDON, July 23: Sony
Pictures Television International (SPTI) has notched up additional deals for Dragons’
Den
, licensing the format into Ireland, Sweden and the
Czech Republic.

In Ireland, the format
will be produced by Screentime ShinAwiL for RTE, while in Sweden, the show will
be produced by Silverback to air on SVT. Dragons’ Den will air on and be produced in-house in the Czech
Republic by Czech Television.

The show has been
confirmed for a second season on NED3 in the Netherlands and for a third season
on CBC in Canada, and will debut on HRT in Croatia and on NBA in Nigeria. Dragons’
Den
, which originated in Japan, extends
to 20 countries worldwide, including the U.S., where a local version is being
planned with Sony Pictures Television and Mark Burnett. In the U.K., the show airs on BBC Two.

director of non-scripted formats for Europe at SPTI, said: “The continued
popularity of Dragons’ Den on
the BBC highlights the appetite for high quality, business entertainment. I am
delighted to confirm that we have licensed the show to three new territories in
Ireland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. Globally, the show continues to perform
strongly with broadcasters in Holland and Canada commissioning additional
series and new launches in Croatia and in Nigeria.”
