Globo TV Looks to Expand Central, Eastern European Presence

SÃO PAULO, June 18: Globo TV International is showcasing an array of documentaries, dramas, comedies and telenovelas at DISCOP this week as it looks to build on its successful business in Central and Eastern Europe.

Currently, TV Globo’s productions are airing on 44 channels in ten markets in the region, among them Romania, where a number of the Brazilian distributor’s shows air on Acasa TV. Other markets that have acquired Globo content include Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Among the titles on offer in Budapest are the International Emmy-nominated Antonia, the comedies The Cleaning Lady, Normal People, The Big Family and Under New Management and the drama series Heavy Load. Also available is the Globo DOC series of nature documentaries. “Globo DOC was specifically developed for the international market based on TV Globo’s extensive documentary journalism material,” said Flᶩo Rocha, the international director of content for TV Globo. “We took advantage of all the technical resources at our disposal, as well as our vast experience producing documentaries, to take ‘the best of Brazil’ to the international market.” Complementing the DISCOP slate are three new telenovelas: Two Faces, Tropical Paradise and Seven Sins.
