Five Picks Up NGTI Titles

LONDON, June 17: Five has
acquired seven new programs from National Geographic Television International
(NGTI), including the one-hour forensic investigation and history special Riddle
of the Lost Romanovs
.

Acquired by Five as a
presale, Riddle of the Lost Romanovs is centered on last year’s findings of a set of bones, thought to
belong to the son and one of the daughters of Russia’s last Tsar. Three other
hour-long history titles are Death of the Iceman, Mystery of the Bog Mummies and China’s Mystery Mummies.

Science programs in the package
are Mighty Movers: Rock Eaters of Iceland, which looks at the construction of Europe’s highest dam and
underground power plant; Mega Bridges: Denmark to Sweden, exploring the construction of the Oresund Bridge,
which links Malmo and Copenhagen; and South Pole Super Structure, with an exclusive look at the challenges of
conducting a major building project at a brutal construction site.

Edwina Thring, the head of
acquisitions and co-productions at NGTI, commented: “Five is a long-standing
client of NGTI and we are pleased to have extended the relationship further
with these new titles, many of which were only launched at MIPTV this year.
Through its missions’ activity and investment in scientific research, NGT often
obtains exclusive access for filming. This ensures we can usually offer the
‘definitive’ programming on key topics such as the Romanovs and retain a
competitive edge in the marketplace.”
