SIC, TV Globo Extend Broadcast Partnership

RIO DE
JANEIRO, June 2: SIC has renewed its agreement with TV Globo for an additional
four years, securing the exclusive
broadcast rights to all of TV Globo’s new telenovelas produced up to 2012.

The deal only includes
telenovelas and doesn’t cover other types of content or drama. Since 1994, SIC
has exclusively broadcast TV Globo’s telenovelas and mini-series. Under the
agreement, productions are aired simultaneously by both channels.

“We are very satisfied to
renew our agreement with SIC,” said Ricardo Scalamandré, the director of TV
Globo’s international division. “For many years now we’ve had the privilege of
being present in the lives of thousands of Portuguese people through our
productions. Renewing this partnership for four more years is another
validation of the quality of our productions and the recognition of Brazilian
artists in the country.”

Added SIC’s CEO, José
Bastos e Silva, “SIC is proud to continue associated with the world’s biggest
producer of fiction in Portuguese language. Renewing this agreement is
strategic for us, be it to secure viewer loyalty, be it for the example Globo’s
expertise represents to SIC’s fiction. In grid terms, the Globo product is
undoubtedly another asset and a differentiating factor. Producing in Portugal
is one of SIC’s priorities. Associating the Globo brand to this production will
contribute decidedly in improving our offer.”
