Winners Announced for 35th International Emmy Awards

NEW YORK, November 20: At a Gala held last night at
the Hilton in New York, the
International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences unveiled the winners of
the 35th International Emmy Awards, with British programming capturing trophies
in seven categories.

Hosted by stage and screen
actor Roger Bart, who is currently starring in Mel
Brooks’ new Broadway musical, Young Frankenstein, the Gala also featured presenters like Robert De
Niro, Kristen Bell, Sam Waterston, Rob Morrow, Alan Cumming, Gloria Reuben, Eric
Bogosian and Katrina Bowden.

The
live-action fairytale The Magic Tree came out on top in the children and young people
category, garnering Poland’s first International Emmy Award.

There was a
tie in the best performance by an actor category, with British actor Jim
Broadbent winning for his performance as Stan McDermott in the drama series The
Street, and Dutch
actor Pierre Bokma winning for his performance as Peter van der Laan in the
television movie The Chosen One. For best performance by an actress, French comedian Muriel Robin
won for her performance as Marie Besnard in Marie-Besnard: The Poisoner.

In addition to
the best actor category, British programming also won in six other categories:
arts programming, comedy, documentary, drama series, TV movie/mini-series and
non-scripted entertainment categories.

“We
congratulate this year’s winners for their outstanding achievement,” said
Academy president and CEO Bruce Paisner, also the president of Hearst
Entertainment. “The International Academy is proud to be the preeminent
platform for recognizing excellence in television programming and talent on a
global scale.”
