Cartoon Movie 2026 Selects Projects

The selection committee of Cartoon Movie has chosen 50 projects from 21 countries after a record-breaking 150 submissions for its 2026 event, taking place from March 3 to 5.

Eleven projects represented are from CEE countries and UA (HR, CZ, EE, GE, HU, PL and RO), and four projects are from Nordic countries (DK, NO and SE). The co-production and pitching event for European animated feature films will take place in Bordeaux, France, from March 3 to 5.

Five of the selected projects are supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and accompanied by ALCA: Blaise (KG Productions), Detective Kibbles (La Station Animation), Jim Queen (Bobbypills), Pangea (Miyu Productions) and Smecheria or the Confidences of a Cheat (Walking the Dog, BE, in co-production with Hutong Productions and Aparte Film, RO). Pangea and Detective Kibbles will likely be produced in the Angoulême studios.

Happy Hunting vs the Apocalypse is produced by the Bordeaux-based studio Kawanimation. Novanima Productions, based in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is the co-producer of the Czech project Firebird. The regional co-writers and co-directors Chintis Lundgren and Draško Ivezić are involved in Saima: Scenes From a Midlife Crisis. Jim Queen (Bobbypills) is supported by the Charente department.

Of the projects, 38 percent actively champion diversity and inclusion at the heart of their storytelling. 37 percent of the projects are directed by at least one woman, and over half (52 percent) are driven by at least one lead female producer. 48 percent of the selected projects feature a female main character, showcasing powerful stories such as Carmen and the Wooden Spoon (Thinkwild Studios, ES) or Billie Beat (Little Dream Entertainment, DE).

Content for young adults and adult audiences now represents 38 percent of the lineup, compared to 30 percent in 2025. Meanwhile, 58 percent of the selected projects target children and family audiences.
