Some 10,500 delegates, including 3,800 buyers and 1,500 exhibiting companies from about 100 countries, were in Cannes for MIPTV this week, according to organizer Reed MIDEM.

The figures are down slightly on the numbers released for MIPTV last year, which had attendance at 11,000 participants, including 3,900 buyers.

Highlights of the event included several premieres of high-end drama, among them Sky Vision’s Riviera, and the first Asian World Premiere Screening, Kansai’s Crisis.

The MIPDrama Screenings on Sunday, April 2, attracted more than 450 buyers, with prizes given to Jailers, Ride Upon the Storm, Babylon Berlin, Missions and Clique. There was also the MIPDrama Pre-LA Screenings, with previews of the Disney Media Distribution and Lionsgate slates. “We know that other U.S. studios are watching this inaugural event with interest and we hope they will follow Disney and Lionsgate’s lead next year,” said Laurine Garaude, the director of the television division at Reed MIDEM.

Garaude added, “With the many new initiatives introduced recently, including MIPDrama Screenings, Pre-LA Screenings, VR focus and the announcement of the Cannes Series festival, MIPTV is poised to drive the international TV industry forward.”

MIPDoc and MIPFormats on the weekend attracted 1,800 participants.
