LONDON: MediaGuardian has unveiled its annual U.K. media power list, ranking Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg as the most influential person in British media, with Rupert Murdoch and the BBC's Tony Hall on top in the broadcasting segment.

Zuckerberg, the founder and chief executive of Facebook; Larry Page, co-founder and chief executive of Google; and Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple, were the top three in the overall ranking, each coming from the technology/social media segment. George Osborne, the chancellor of the Exchequer, and Murdoch, the head of 21st Century Fox and News Corp, round out the top five.

Murdoch ranked highest, though, within the broadcasting industry, followed by Hall, the director-general of the BBC, who placed sixth overall. Sharon White, the chief executive of Ofcom, is third in broadcast and tenth overall.

Of the top 100 media power players on the list, 46 percent work in broadcasting. This includes Culture Secretary John Whittingdale (11), Jeremy Darroch, the chief executive of Sky and chair of Sky Deutschland (12), presenter Chris Evans (13) and Adam Crozier, the chief executive of ITV (16).

ITV's director of television, Peter Fincham, made the list (20), alongside Charlotte Moore, the controller of BBC One (21); Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer at Netflix (22); Sophie Turner Laing, the chief executive of the Endemol Shine Group (28); Shane Smith, co-founder and chief executive of VICE Media (29); David Abraham, the chief executive of Channel 4 (30); and Tim Davie, the chief executive of BBC Worldwide and director of global (35).

Philippe Dauman, the president and CEO of Viacom, ranked 51 on the overall media list, with writer/producer/director Shonda Rhimes at 62; Roy Price, the head of Amazon Studios, at 64; Richard Plepler, the chairman and chief executive of HBO, at 66; and Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat at 76.
