LONDON: Shine TV has appointed the former Channel 4 exec Darren Smith to the new role of head of entertainment and comedy.

Smith will report to Karen Smith, the joint managing director at Shine TV. Prior to joining Shine, Smith spent four years as the commissioning editor for entertainment and comedy at Channel 4. Smith’s comedy commissions include Friday Night Dinner, Campus and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, among others. Prior to joining C4 in 2007 he served as a development executive at Zeppotron and BBC Entertainment, where he first worked with Karen Smith.

Karen Smith said, “The genre definitions between comedy and entertainment are becoming increasing blurred and Darren has a proven eye and exceptional record in both, making him ideally placed to spearhead both areas, in a new, expanded remit for us. I know he will be an incredible addition to the team and am thrilled to be working with him again.”
