NEW YORK: The newest original series to join AMC, Hell on Wheels, a contemporary western, heads into production this month in Calgary, with a premiere set for the fourth quarter of 2011.

The show was developed by Endemol USA and produced by Entertainment One (eOne) and Nomadic Pictures. Joe and Tony Gayton are the creators, writers and executive producers.

Hell on Wheels centers on a former confederate soldier whose quest for vengeance led him to the Union Pacific Railroad’s westward construction on the first Transcontinental Railroad. The series tells the story of post-Civil War America.

“AMC’s commitment to the western is long-standing, and the genre is an important part of our brand and history as a channel,” said Charlie Collier, the president of AMC. “‘In Hell on Wheels, AMC is creating another epic and enduring American story.”

Endemol holds all television distribution rights across Europe, with eOne selling Hell on Wheels in all remaining territories. eOne also handles the worldwide rights for DVD and Blu-ray, VOD and digital distribution.
