Video Interview: Torchwood’s John Barrowman, Bill Pullman and Julie Gardner

NEW YORK: John Barrowman and Bill Pullman, the stars of Torchwood: Miracle Day, together with executive producer Julie Gardner, spoke to World Screen about what viewers can expect from the new season.

This July, Starz in the U.S. and BBC One in the U.K. will premiere Torchwood: Miracle Day, season four of the sci-fi franchise created by Russell T Davies. A spin-off of Davies’ 2005 Doctor Who relaunch, the show stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, the leader of an organization that investigates extraterrestrial activity. Joining the cast for the new iteration is feature-film star Bill Pullman, known for hits like Independence Day, as villain Oswald Danes.

Barrowman and Pullman were at MIPTV this month with BBC Worldwide to launch the show to the international market. “Torchwood was already popular with viewers all around the world, so buyers in Cannes were very responsive to hearing about the new series,” Steve Macallister, president and managing director of sales and distribution, tells World Screen. “BBC Worldwide Productions in L.A. have produced a fantastic, thought-provoking and thrilling series with a real international feel. Combine this with a cast that features top acting talent from both sides of the Atlantic, a terrific writing team and Starz Entertainment as our U.S. partners and you have an incredibly compelling combination—which we believe will open this latest installment of Torchwood up to a whole new audience.”
