TORONTO: Canadian sci-fi, horror and fantasy channel SPACE has secured several titles from BBC Worldwide Canada, including the upcoming series Torchwood: Miracle Day starring John Barrowman and Bill Pullman.

The new season of Torchwood is being co-produced by the BBC and Starz, and is set for premiere in the U.S. and U.K. this summer. Pullman and Mekhi Phifer join returning cast members John Barrowman and Eve Myles in the ten-episode show, produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for Starz, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. World Screen Newsflash caught up with Barrowman, Pullman and exec producer Julie Gardner in Cannes last week.

SPACE has also secured the rights to the supernatural drama Bedlam, seasons four and five of the ITV1 series Primeval and the futuristic series Outcasts. "SPACE is very pleased to continue our valued partnership with BBC Worldwide Canada," said Joanna Webb, the senior VP of programming at Bell Media. "Over the course of this relationship, we’ve worked collaboratively to deliver some of the highest quality and most exciting genre programming to Canadian viewers."

Hilary Read, COO of BBC Worldwide Canada, added, “A leader in the sci-fi realm, SPACE has been a fantastic partner and the perfect Canadian home for these captivating titles. BBC produces some of the world’s most acclaimed sci-fi and supernatural programming, and we’re looking forward to sharing these exceptional series with audiences across Canada.”
