CANNES: The drama series Rake has been scooped up by DIRECTV from international distributor DCD Rights.

The eight-part series centers on the self-destructive criminal defense lawyer Cleaver Greene and his chaotic world that includes women, gambling and drugs. Rake already premiered on ABC in Australia.

Nicky Davies Williams, the CEO of DCD Rights, said: “We are delighted that DIRECTV has acquired this critically acclaimed series which has so far been fantastically received by audiences in Australia and around the world.”

Patty Ishimoto, DIRECTV’s VP of entertainment and general manager of The 101 Network, continued: “Cleaver Greene is a rake in every sense of the word, a thoroughly irrepressible and iconoclastic character that somehow worms his way into your heart. DIRECTV is the perfect home for Rake and we are proud to add the series to our stable of critically acclaimed, award-winning series.”
