PARIS: Vivendi has completed the sale of its 20-percent stake in NBC Universal for $5.8 billion, paving the way for GE to enter its new joint venture with Comcast Corporation.

"We are very satisfied that our strategic objective to exit NBC Universal has been completed," said Jean-Bernard Lévy, CEO of Vivendi. "We wish all parties well in their new venture. Vivendi now has control of all its assets and is fully focused on pursuing its profitable growth strategy."

Comcast and GE have received regulatory approval for their new 51 percent/49 percent JV for NBC Universal, with that deal expected to close by the end of this month.
