Glee, Modern Family, Mad Men Top SAG TV Noms

LOS ANGELES: The nominees for the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards have been announced, with the casts of the comedies Glee and Modern Family and the dramas Mad Men and newcomer Boardwalk Empire being well-represented across the board.

For drama, ensemble nods went out to Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and The Closer. Individual performance recognition was given to lead actors Steve Buscemi of Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad, Michael C. Hall of Dexter, Jon Hamm of Mad Men and Hugh Laurie of House. Actress nods were given to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Elisabeth Moss for Mad Men, Glenn Close for Damages, Mariska Hargitay for Law & Order: SVU and Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer.

The casts of 30 Rock, The Office, Glee, Modern Family and Hot in Cleveland were recognized for ensemble performance in a comedy. Individual honors went out to Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell and Ed O’Neill, Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock, Steve Carell of The Office and Chris Colfer for Glee. Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara received a nod for individual female comedy performance, along with Betty White of Hot in Cleveland, Tina Fey of 30 Rock, Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie and Jane Lynch of Glee.

Rounding out the television categories are the individual performance nominations for male and female actor in a TV movie or mini-series. A trio of male leads from You Don’t Know Jack were recognized—John Goodman, Al Pacino and Dennis Quaid—along with Edgar Ramirez of Carlos and Patrick Stewart for MacBeth. Susan Sarandon was nominated for You Don’t Know Jack in the female lead category, against Winona Ryder for When Love is Not Enough and Temple Grandin‘s Claire Danes, Catherine O’Hara and Julia Ormond.

For motion pictures, the casts of Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kids are Alright, The King’s Speech and The Social Network picked up ensemble nominations. For male performance, Jesse Eisenberg of The Social Network, Colin Firth for The King’s Speech, James Franco of 127 Hours, Jeff Bridges of True Grit and Robert Duvall of Get Low received nominations for their lead roles. Supporting nods went to Christian Bale for The Fighter, Mark Ruffalo for The Kids are Alright, John Hawkes for Winter’s Bone, Jeremy Renner for The Town and Geoffrey Rush for The King’s Speech. Female leads called out for their individual performances are Annette Benning for The Kids are Alright, Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence for Winter’s Bone, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and Hilary Swank for Conviction. Supporting female nominees are Amy Adams for The Fighter, Helena Bonham Carter for The King’s Speech, Mila Kunis for Black Swan, Melissa Leo for The Fighter and Hailee Steinfeld for True Grit

The SAG Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on January 30.
