SANTA MONICA: Moving Pictures Film & TV has acquired the North American rights for the romantic comedy Swinging with the Finkels, starring Mandy Moore and Martin Freeman, from SC Films International.

Produced by Deepak Nayar (Bend it Like Beckham), the film is an off-beat romantic comedy about how to survive the rocky road of sex in a marriage, with lessons on the truth about swinging and the truth about love. The movie was shot entirely in London.

Swinging with the Finkels is written and directed by Jonathan Newman. “Jonathan has a natural talent for storytelling and filmmaking,” said Nayar. “He did a short called Sex with the Finkels and I was keen to work with him to develop it into a full-length commercial film.”

Gary Hirsch, the senior acquisitions executive at Moving Pictures, commented, “When watching the film at Cannes, I laughed out loud. This is a great date movie—there’s enough male-oriented humor for the guys and enough substance and sentiment for the women.”

Margaret Tritch, the president of the Maitland Primrose Group, which owns the Moving Pictures brand, said, Swinging with the Finkels is a quality, theatrical film with strong universal themes on love packaged in a humorous and entertaining story. Following on the heels of our acquisition of Henry’s Crime, this film completes our early 2011 slate of theatrical releases. Swinging with the Finkels adds another title to the list of high caliber pictures we are focusing on for the future.”
