TORONTO: Breakthrough Entertainment has started principal photography on Single White Spenny, a new original comedy starring Kenny vs. Spenny‘s Spencer Rice that is set to air on Showcase in spring 2011.

Filming began yesterday and runs until December 15 in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. In the show, Spenny makes his living inventing and selling novelty gift items, with his professional claim to fame being a coffee-table book called The Book of Poop. He is accused by his ex-wife of being immature and emotionally inept. He sets out to prove her wrong by venturing into new dating pursuits with the help of his best friend Chelsea (Amy Matysio). The cast of quirky characters is rounded out by Spenny’s self-centered mother (Deb McGrath) and his assistant (Nikki Payne).

“Showcase has given me a temporary reprieve from the death sentence of Kenny vs. Spenny so I can do a civilized scripted sitcom where I play a man-child, haplessly attempting to find a soul mate,” said Rice. “I’m thrilled to be working with Howard Busgang, Tom Nursall and Breakthrough Entertainment.”
