ISTANBUL: The Island, produced by Television Enterprises (TVE) and sold by Global Agency, made its debut on Mega TV in Greece, with its first episode scoring an average market share of 61.7 percent, with a peak of 73 percent for ages 15 to 44.

The series is an adaptation of the international bestselling novel of the same name, written by Victoria Hislop, which has been translated into 25 languages and sold more than 2 million copies. The Island presents the story of three generations of women who are connected to the island of Spinalonga, a former leper colony just off eastern Crete. The story moves from present-day London, where a young college student is looking into her family’s past, traveling back in time to Greece in 1939.

TVE’s director of acquisitions and development, Victoria Elmacioglu, said, “We are extremely proud to be the producers of this ground-breaking production that premiered to both great critical acclaim and record-high audience ratings.”

Izzet Pinto, the CEO of Global Agency, added, “We are thrilled to be partners with TVE and Mega TV in the distribution of this amazing series to worldwide television.”
