SNL Creator to Receive International Emmy Honor

NEW YORK: Lorne Michaels, creator and executive producer of Saturday Night Live, will receive the International Emmy Directorate Award this year.

Michaels will receive the award at the 38th International Emmy Awards Gala on November 22 in New York City. Announcing the award, Bruce Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, noted: “With Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels opened the door to a new kind of comedy on television and since then nearly everyone has walked through it. He has changed our entertainment, affected our politics, and shaped the way we view the world."

Through Broadway Video Entertainment, formed by Michaels in 1979, SNL has aired in some 130 territories, including several where local adaptations have been produced. In addition to his duties on SNL, which is in its 35th season, Michaels is executive producer of NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and 30 Rock. Previous credits include Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Kids in The Hall and Night Music.
