HBO Archives Bolsters Entertainment News Collection

NEW YORK: HBO Archives has recovered more than 13,000 videotapes of entertainment footage from the early 1980s to the late ’90s that have never been catalogued.

The new available material joins HBO Archives Entertainment News library that covers the 1970s to present, all of which is offered for clip licensing. The catalogue includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, red-carpet premieres and gala appearances, along with celebrity interviews from the areas of movies, TV, music and comedy.

“This collection is one of great depth and breadth,” said Chris Spencer, the executive VP of HBO Creative Services. “Since the ’70s we have produced celebrity featurettes and specials starting with our classic On Location and Standing Room Only programs, resulting in a plethora of one-of-a-kind archival footage.”

“The mid-’80s through the mid-’90s were our golden period,” Spencer added. “We went beyond the featurettes and produced original series that continued to build respect within the celebrity community.” Some of these titled included The Talk Show, Behind the Scenes, The Max Movie Show and World Entertainment Report
