NDS Releases Study on Indian DVR Use

MUMBAI: DVR users in India rank the device as the second most-essential home technology item, according to a survey conducted by Media Partners Asia (MPA) for NDS.

Operators such as Tata Sky and Hathway have begun introducing DVR technology to India’s booming pay-TV market. The NDS/MPA survey found that once consumers have used a DVR, they can’t live without one. The DVR was ranked as the most essential household item after the mobile phone. Moreover, 88 percent of survey respondents said that owning a DVR has made their TV viewing experience more enjoyable; and 64 percent said the DVR led them to watch more interesting shows. The consumer survey also concludes that owning a DVR "leads to a more harmonious home life"—54 percent of respondents said that having a DVR resulted in fewer arguments over what to watch.
