3-D Adaptation Set for Beatles’ Yellow Submarine

ANAHEIM: The Walt Disney Studios has struck a deal with The Beatles’ Apple Corps to develop a new 3-D adaptation of the 1968 classic animated film Yellow Submarine, to be written and directed by Robert Zemeckis.

The film will be created by ImageMovers Digital, Disney’s state-of-the-art performance capture animation studio operated in conjunction with Zemeckis and his partners, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, who will serve as producers on the project. The original motion picture, based on the music of The Beatles, was directed by George Dunning and featured the inspired art direction and design of Heinz Edelmann. The movie is set in Pepperland, an undersea paradise inhabited by music lovers who live in peace and harmony and are protected by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

A further announcement from The Walt Disney Studios reveals the creation of a new production label, Disney Double Dare You (DDY), in collaboration with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. All of the animated features from DDY will be produced with guidance of del Toro, who originated the concept and the design of DDY and who will also direct certain projects. The first project in development from the new label is Trollhunters, an original story from del Toro that he will produce.
