$2 Million Settlement for Turner Marketing Ploy

BOSTON, February 6: Turner Broadcasting System and the New
York-based marketing firm Interference will shell out a total of $2 million to
cover the costs of the bomb scare in Boston caused by a Cartoon Network
marketing ploy.

According to published reports, $1 million will be used to reimburse
federal, state and local agencies for their response to the events—the
electronic devices used to promote Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force
led to the closure of highways, bridges and subway stations. A further $1
million will go to federal, state and local agencies to help fund emergency
response training and equipment.

The settlement deal also prevents the city of Boston from
filing civil or criminal charges against Turner Broadcasting or Interference.
Criminal charges have, however, already been filed against Peter Berdovsky and
Sean Stevens, the two Boston men who were hired by Interference to put the
marketing signs up across the city.

It is not clear how the $2 million will be shared between
Turner and Interference. Turner is expected to bear the bulk of the settlement.
