1970s Brit Comedy Comes to Bridges TV

BUFFALO, July 12: The
British comedy Mind Your Language,
broadcast on ITV in the late ‘70s, has been picked up for a prime-time slot on
Bridges TV in the U.S.

The comedy focused on a
group of new immigrants to the U.K. as they learned English. It ran on ITV from
1977 to 1979 and also gained a following in other markets worldwide, including
in Asia, the Middle East and South Africa, despite criticism that its
stereotypes of immigrants was offensive.

Bridges TV says it wants
to provide an outlet for populations typically under-represented in mainstream
media and aims to foster understanding among varying diverse cultures and
populations within the U.S. and Canada. It is available on digital basic cable
in parts of 14 states, including California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois,
Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.

"Humor is one of the
best ways both to entertain and break down cultural barriers,” said Mo Hassan,
the CEO of Bridges TV. “Bridges TV is proud to bring Mind Your Language to a new generation of Americans and in the future
we look forward to introducing more high-quality programming that builds
bridges in America.”
