NEW YORK: Verizon has added BBC America in high-def to its FiOS TV lineup.

The channel will broadcast popular shows such as Doctor Who and Top Gear. BBC America, which has been available in standard definition on FiOS TV, will be included in the Extreme HD and Ultimate HD FiOS TV packages.

The high-definition version of BBC America will soon be part of FiOS TV’s Video on Demand feature.

"We are thrilled that we are now able to make BBC America HD a part of our FiOS TV lineup," said Terry Denson, the VP of content strategy and acquisition at Verizon. "Fans of BBC America will now be able to enjoy their favorite programming in HD via FiOS TV’s 100 percent fiber-optic network to the home."

Sandy Ashendorf, the executive VP of network distribution at BBC Worldwide, America, commented: "We’re excited that FiOS TV customers are now able to enjoy BBC America programs in HD. With the series premiere of our first original drama, Copper, on Aug. 19 and new seasons of Doctor Who and The Hour around the corner, the timing for the launch of BBC America HD on FiOS TV couldn’t be better."
