Marja-Lewis Ryan, whose credits include The Four-Faced Liar and 6 Balloons, has been tapped as showrunner and executive producer of Showtime’s upcoming sequel to The L Word.

Series creator Ilene Chaiken is set to exec produce the sequel, which is currently in development, alongside original stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey. The groundbreaking drama ran on Showtime from 2004 to 2009. Beals, Moennig and Hailey will appear in the follow-up, surrounded by a new ensemble of characters.

“Ilene and the original L Word made me believe that my voice mattered,” said Ryan. “I am beyond excited for the opportunity to usher in the next generation of diverse queer people. I couldn’t imagine a better time to make this show.”
