LONDON: The U.K. factual channel Yesterday has added to its Spirit of the Sixties season with a range of programs about music, fashion, sports and politics, for its September lineup.

The season will feature a variety of documentaries and rockumentaries, including Carnaby Street Undressed, Beatles Magical Mystery Tour Memories, The Sixties: The Years That Shaped a Generation, Teen Spirit: Mods and Rockers, Freedom Riders, Roads to Memphis and Stonewall Uprising.

“Yesterday recognized some time ago that recent history and personal stories have greater resonance for viewers than dim dark history with little to no film archive,” said Adrian Wills, the interim head of factual at Yesterday. “We’ve been looking for commissions and acquisitions that reflect the big counter-cultural shifts, the explosion of fashion and music and the massive changes in attitudes and behavior toward things like sex and drugs.”

Emma Sparks, the acquisitions executive of Factual, commented, “I’m delighted to have secured such strong titles for Yesterday’s Spirit of the Sixties season, we’ve got a real mix of themes including music, nostalgia and fashion with some must-see U.S. acquisitions covering key events that shaped a generation. These programs really evoke emotion and nostalgia, bringing to life the colorful decade of the ’60s.”
