Wipeout Continues to Notch Up Sales

HILVERSUM: Endemol International has scored a new round of deals for its hit format Wipeout, including BBC One commissioning a further two seasons of the British treatment.

The new commission adds 24 episodes for BBC One, which launched the first season of the obstacle-course format in January to strong ratings. The British version has also been picked up by TV3 in New Zealand, along with ABC’s U.S. treatment and Nine Network’s Australian show. Watch in the U.K., AXN in Asia and Antena in Greece and Cyprus have all taken the U.S. series.

The format is set for further international rollout in Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America. TVN in Chile and RTL in Croatia have both licensed Wipeout for local versions and additional deals have been secured with broadcasters in Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro. This follows recent news that M6 has ordered a first series from Endemol France.

The competition game show sees contestants from all walks of life compete for a grand cash prize in grueling and comedic rounds across extreme obstacle courses.

Tom Toumazis, the chief commercial officer of Endemol Group, commented: "Wipeout is our fastest selling show and it’s a proven, time-slot-winning hit. The U.K. will be the first territory outside the U.S. to complete its first series and already they’ve booked two more. With MIPTV just round the corner, this is a fantastic vote of confidence from one of the world’s biggest TV markets."
