NEW YORK: Elizabeth Hurley tells World Screen about her experience working on The Royals, a new drama produced by Lionsgate Television that marks E!'s move into scripted series.

The U.S. entertainment network E!, known for its celeb-reality series and pop-culture news, is making the move into scripted programming with The Royals. Set for a March 2015 launch, the series is led by Hurley, who herself is Hollywood royalty. Hurley has had a long list of feature-film credits, but has only done a smattering of TV work. When she got offered the role of playing a fictional queen of England in The Royals, however, Hurley says she couldn’t resist the allure. Hurley’s character, Queen Helena, is the matriarch of a fictitious, scandal-plagued royal family in modern-day England. The series takes a peek at the wild antics going on behind the palace’s closed doors. The sexy new drama is produced by Lionsgate Television and comes from One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn.
