Video Interview: CAKE’s Tom van Waveren & Ed Galton

NEW YORK: CAKE’s Tom van Waveren and Ed Galton discuss the challenges and opportunities of operating as an independent in the kids’ content arena today.

With a catalogue that includes international hits like the Total Drama franchise and Eliot Kid, London-based CAKE has become a go-to supplier for broadcasters in need of high-quality comedic animated fare. The company has broadened its catalogue as of late, expanding into live action with Dead Gorgeous and launching a new animated preschool property at MIPCOM, the book-based Poppy Cat. Aligning with a diverse array of producers, from Fresh TV in Canada (Total Drama) to Coolabi (Poppy Cat) in the U.K. to TeamTO (Oscar’s Oasis) in France, has been CAKE’s strategy for building a strong slate of kids’ and family titles that will appeal to a broad mix of clients—and that’s a path the company wants to stay on.

Recently restructured in the wake of Genevieve Dexter’s exit, CAKE is today being led by Tom van Waveren as CEO and creative director at CAKE Entertainment and Ed Galton as chief commercial officer and managing director of CAKE Distribution.
