Viasat Hockey Headed to the Baltics

STOCKHOLM: Viasat’s satellite TV subscribers in the Baltics and IPTV subscribers in Estonia and Lithuania now have access to Viasat Hockey, which holds the broadcasting rights for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to coverage of the National Hockey League (NHL) and exclusive rights to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) international ice-hockey league.

Viasat Hockey will be an addition to Viasat Sport Baltic and Viasat Golf and will replace Viasat Sport East.

The NHL rights are syndicated by ESPN, and include five exclusive NHL matches every week during the regular season between October and April, news and highlights from all NHL matches, and co-exclusive rights with ESPN America to all of the Stanley Cup Playoff games between April and June. The KHL international ice-hockey league brings together 21 teams from Russia and one team each from Latvia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Karolis Dapkevicius, the head of Viasat Sport Baltics, commented: “The NHL and the KHL are the premier professional hockey leagues in the world. To bring it to Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania reflects our commitment to provide the very best in both local and international sports content to our viewers, and clearly positions Viasat as the number one broadcaster of ice hockey, with an exciting and diverse portfolio of on- and off-line rights.”
