Verizon FiOS TV Makes NYC Debut

NEW YORK, July 28:
Verizon’s FiOS TV service is now available in New York City, offering 100 HD
channels to 108 neighborhoods across the city’s five boroughs.

The initial launch offers
the FiOS TV service to some 300,000 households—delivering 100 HD channels
and 400 HD VOD titles—as well as Verizon’s FiOS triple-play bundle of
FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and wired telephone service. By the end of the year, the
company expects this to expand to half-a-million homes, with plans to reach all
3.1 million households across New York City within the next few years.

HD channels included are
Animal Planet, TLC, FX, USA, Bravo, TBS, History Channel, Weather Channel,
Science Channel, SCI FI and Smithsonian Channel, among others. Verizon has
added the news offerings CNN, CNBC, Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel
in HD as well. There are also 11 new channels from Cinemax and 13 new channels
from HBO offered in high definition alongside FiOS TV’s Movie Package, which
now includes 13 new channels from The Movie Channel, Starz and Showtime.
Additionally, four new sports networks and seven new standard-definition
channels have been added to the service, and Verizon is planning to include 14
additional multicultural channels soon.

The new channel lineup
will also be offered to existing FiOS TV markets in the New York metropolitan
area, including parts of Long Island, the suburbs just north of the city and
northern New Jersey.

"New Yorkers at long
last have a better choice for TV," said Maura Breen, Verizon’s general
manager for New York. "We've had great success in the suburban areas
around the city. Now it's time to put the Verizon FiOS TV show on Broadway—and
eventually every other street, avenue and boulevard in the city—so New
Yorkers can kiss old-fashioned cable good bye."

"Verizon's commitment
to HD leadership is about more than just the large number of HD titles we
offer; it's also about picture quality and providing a wide diversity of
content," added Terry Denson, the VP of FiOS TV content and programming.
"New York City is the nation's melting pot, and FiOS TV delivers an
incredible range of programming that's global in scope."
