LONDON: UKTV’s lifestyle channel Really has pre-invested in the new Electric Sky series Fat Surgeons, picking up the exclusive U.K. rights.

The 10×50-minute series will be part of the channels Q1 2012 lineup. Fat Surgeons follows two of Britain’s most sought after bariatric experts, Shaw Somers and Chris Pring and their patients. The show presents overweight people who undergo surgery to lose weight and the problems they face.

UKTV’s channel head, Clare Laycock said, “We’re delighted to be pre-investing in Fat Surgeons for Really. The channel has already shown phenomenal growth since its move onto Freeview, and we believe that this real-life medical documentary series will resonate well with our core audience who already enjoy medical titles, including Medical Emergency and Bizarre ER.”

Vicky Matthews, the series producer from Electric Sky, added, “We have been given exclusive behind the scenes access to the work of Mr. Shaw Somers and Mr. Chris Pring, and are delighted to be able to relay the remarkable stories of their patients in Fat Surgeons. The series will be both touching and educational, as Really viewers see for themselves some of the consequences of over-eating.”
