Ugly Betty Begins Asia-Pacific Rollout

HONG KONG, January 22: On the heels of its recent wins at
the Golden Globes and the successful debut on Channel 4 in the U.K., Buena
Vista International Television’s Ugly Betty has secured slots on ten broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region,
including on TVNZ, where it premiered to strong ratings last week.

The series was the highest-rated program of the night across
all demographics on January 16 on TVNZ’s TV2. The show won its Tuesday night by
attracting an average audience share of 613,600 viewers and captured an 18
rating and 58 percent share of viewers aged 18-39.

The hit comedy will launch on Korea’s KBS on February 3,
Singapore’s MediaCorp TV on February 5, Malaysia’s 8TV on February 6 and Hong
Kong’s TVB Pearl on March 15. Five other networks, including Seven Network in
Australia, the pan-regional STAR World, STAR in India, CJ Media Channel CGV in
Korea and Fiji TV, have also licensed the series with airdates not yet
announced.

Ugly Betty is from
Touchtone Television. In the U.S., the series has
consistently led in its time period among women aged 18-34. The series
launched in the U.K. on January 5 with the highest premiere ratings for a U.S.
comedy on Channel 4 in 10 years.
