Video Interview: The Jewel Thief’s Landon Van Soest

Gerald Blanchard, one of the most creative, calculating and accomplished criminal masterminds in modern history, is at the center of the new documentary The Jewel Thief. The docu-film features a firsthand account from Blanchard and focuses on two unlikely Winnipeg detectives who track him across the globe as he perpetrates a series of increasingly elaborate heists in a quest for fame and notoriety through a life of crime. The Jewel Thief premiered earlier this month on Hulu.

Landon Van Soest, film director and producer, sat down with TV Real Weekly to go behind the scenes of the making of The Jewel Thief. He talks about gaining access to Blanchard and archive materials and the evolution of the true-crime genre as streaming platforms continue to bring new audiences and opportunities to the genre.
