The CW Network Makes New Acquisitions for Summer Slate

The CW Network has acquired four alternative programs that will make their U.S. debuts on the channel’s summer lineup.

Among the titles launching on The CW this summer is Fridge Wars, which pits two celebrity chefs against one another with a challenge to create extraordinary meals using only the ingredients taken from the ordinary fridges of typical families. The improvised dinners must win over two families who act as judges to determine which chef wins each battle. The culinary competition series, hosted by comedian Emma Hunter and co-created by CBC and The Gurin Company, is slated to premiere on The CW on August 2.

Gwen Jones McCauley, director content sales for CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution, said: “We are thrilled that Fridge Wars has landed with The CW. We’re pleased by its performance on CBC’s prime-time schedule and excited to be able to share it with U.S. audiences.”

The CW’s new satirical horror whodunit reality competition Killer Camp, from Tuesday’s Child and originally broadcast on ITV2, sees 11 British strangers shocked to discover they are not going on a fun new reality show called Summer Camp—but actually participating in an over-the-top “murder” mystery series called “Killer Camp.” Comedian Bobby Mair takes on presenting duties as Camp Counselor Bobby in the series, which premiered on The CW on July 16. Killer Camp was also optioned for the U.S. as a format.

Karen Smith, CEO of Tuesday’s Child, said: “It’s fantastic to be working with The CW team again. Killer Camp is a perfect acquisition for right now when all new reality shows are paused. It’s a fresh and exciting mix of sexy, young reality and gameshow, with an intriguing whodunit twist that keeps viewers guessing, and talking about the show, till the final ep.”

The docuseries Being Reuben follows 14-year-old Reuben de Maid, a talented teen juggling social media stardom with real-life squabbling siblings, who became an internet sensation after shooting to fame following an appearance on “Little Big Shots.” Being Reuben, from Ricochet, a Warner Bros. International Television Production Company, and Krempelwood, will launch on August 7.

Rolling out on August 2, is Taskmaster, an International Emmy and triple BAFTA-nominated comedy game show starring comedian and actor Greg Davies, who issues simple comedic and bizarre tasks to five regular contestants—usually comedians—with show creator Alex Horne acting as the Taskmaster’s assistant. Taskmaster is from Avalon with executive producers Alex Horne, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, James Taylor, Jon Thoday and Andy Devonshire with Hilary Rosen for UKTV.
