Smithsonian Channel to Honor Queen Elizabeth

NEW YORK: Smithsonian Channel is airing a two-hour special next month to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday.

The Queen at 90 will premiere on Smithsonian Channel on May 15 at 8 p.m. It features interviews and contributions from key figures in Queen Elizabeth’s life, including the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the Countess of Wessex and Peter Phillips. It even features the first solo interview with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Additionally, the special offers interviews with international figures such as U.S. President Barack Obama, who took part in the introduction. U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and soccer legend David Beckham are also part of the program. The Queen at 90 features footage from home movies from the Royal Family as well as from global film archives.

The program is produced by Oxford Film and Television for Smithsonian Channel and ITV. The executive producer for Oxford Film and Television is Nicolas Kent. It was directed by Ashley Gething, with Robert Hardman serving as writer and co-producer. Executive producers for ITV are Richard Klein and Jo Clinton-Davis. For Smithsonian Channel, David Royle and Charles Poe serve as executive producers.
