Production Begins on WWII Doc Inside Japan’s War

ZDF Enterprises’ new four-part WWII documentary Inside Japan’s War has started production.

The series begins at the start of Hirohito’s rule in the mid-’20s and follows through to the end of World War II, when the country’s empire dissolved and the government changed into a democracy. It features expert statements, archive images and film, as well as the letters and diaries of and interviews with Japanese and other Asian witnesses.

The 4×1-hour series from ZDF Enterprises begins filming this month, produced by Wildbear Entertainment.

Raif Rueckauer, VP of ZDFE.unscripted, said: “Production, originally due to start earlier this year, was delayed due to the pandemic, however, that worked to our advantage as we discovered rare archive material. An exciting find that will add even more depth to the series making it the most comprehensive documentary of Japan’s World War II.”
