ohm:tv Adds African Pride Doc to Catalog

COLOGNE: ohm:tv has picked up the global distribution rights for 35 Cows and a Kalashnikov, a feature-length documentary focused on African pride.

35 Cows and a Kalashnikov spotlights the Surma tribe of Southern Ethiopia, the dandy movement of Brazzaville and the voodoo wrestlers in Kinshasa. The film shows how archaic roots, colonial past and Western influences all co-exist in Africa today. The 83-minute doc was directed by the late Oswald von Richthofen and produced by award-winning director and producer Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow).

35 Cows and a Kalashnikov is an exciting and captivating film that has attracted the highest caliber producer and director and it’s a perfect fit for ohm:tv’s portfolio,” said Joris Eckelkamp, the CEO of ohm:tv. “We are delighted to present this great documentary, which is set to attract and engage worldwide audiences with its unique brand of storytelling.”

Richthofen noted: “My film 35 Cows and a Kalashnikov in a way is a very personal trilogy about Africa. Warriors, dandies and wrestlers all impressed me with their specific creativity, their talent for colors and their desire for transformation.”

Emmerich added: “We wanted to shoot what the real African life looks like. Africa might be economically the most difficult continent but it has a groove that we’ve lost long ago. Ossie captured this concept of vitality.”
