Barcroft Studios has hired John Farrar, who co-founded Nerd TV, as creative director.

Farrar co-founded Nerd TV with Jago Lee and Charlie Parsons in 2010, and two years later the company was sold to Red Arrow Studios. As Nerd TV’s creative director, Farrar was behind shows such as 12-Year-Old Lifer for Channel 4, Man v Viral for National Geographic and My Selfie Life for Fusion. Previously, he was head of development at Raw TV, where he developed The Imposter, and held senior producer roles at Talkback Thames and Tiger Aspect.

In his new role, Farrar is reporting to CEO Sam Barcroft and CCO Alex Morris.

Barcroft Studios has made two additional appointments as well: Alex Morris has been promoted to chief creative officer while fellow board member and former managing director Caspar Norman has been named chief operating officer.

Barcroft said: “As we grow, it’s important to continue to offer our partners the very best output. We’ve long admired the incredible shows that John delivers and at a time of increasing opportunity for our long-form content, it’s exciting to welcome him to the team.”

Farrar commented: “I am beyond thrilled to join Sam and the team at Barcroft Studios, a company dedicated to intelligent and provocative storytelling backed with journalistic rigor. Barcroft Studios are the epitome of the modern production company—nimble, mischievous and finely tuned to the needs of a constantly evolving media landscape. The chance to join them at this pivotal time was irresistible.”
