Nat Geo Order More Cosmos, Story of God

FOX and National Geographic are bringing back Cosmos, which counts among its executive producers Seth MacFarlane, while Nat Geo has revealed a number of other upcoming highlights, including another season of The Story of God with Morgan Freeman.

EPs MacFarlane, Brannon Braga and Jason Clark are back for a second season of Cosmos. Neil deGrasse Tyson, the famed pop-culture icon, astrophysicist and host of the Emmy Award-nominated StarTalk, returns as host of the series, which is scheduled to premiere globally in spring 2019. Following its successful run in 2014 as the most-watched series ever on National Geographic Channels internationally—and seen by more than 135 million people worldwide on National Geographic and FOX—the new season will once again premiere in the U.S. on both FOX and National Geographic and globally on National Geographic in 171 countries and 43 languages.

Nat Geo revealed the premiere dates for a number of its upcoming programs: Chain of Command launches January 15; Jane debuts March 12; One Strange Rock, executive produced by Jane Root and produced by Root’s Nutopia, rolls out March 26; and America Inside Out With Katie Couric begins April 11. The second installment of Genius, this time focusing on Pablo Picasso, will premiere April 24.

The Story of God with Morgan Freeman is returning to the network for a third season. The series comes from executive producers Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary and James Younger of Revelations Entertainment. National Geographic also signed an exclusive first-look partnership deal with Revelations, with a view to expand the hit series franchise by developing even more nonfiction content.

Also, Phil Keoghan has been announced as the new host of the network’s long-running series Explorer when it returns in fall 2018. Keoghan is best known as the host and executive producer of CBS’s The Amazing Race.

Nat Geo WILD is working on a symphonic celebration of the beauty of the planet in the new TV event Symphony for Our World, which will air April 22. This spring, Nat Geo WILD has lined up a new natural-history slate featuring three new limited series: America’s Wild Frontier, The Mighty Northwest and Wild Russia. Other programming highlights for Nat Geo WILD for 2018 include The Incredible Dr. Pol, Rocky Mountain Rescue, The Supervet, Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER, Buckeye Bottoms, Alaska’s Grizzly Gauntlet and Zoo Life, featuring Jack Hanna.
