ITV Commissions 21st Century Firsts from Spun Gold TV

Spun Gold TV has been commissioned by ITV to produce 21st Century Firsts, a special in which Stephen Fry takes viewers through his top 21 ‘firsts’ of the 21st century.

Exploring an era before smartphones, sat-nav and selfies, 21st Century Firsts takes a look at the day-to-day services that have transformed our lives and that we now take for granted—from Facebook, Twitter and Tinder to Uber, Airbnb and Deliveroo. The documentary will also highlight some of the awe-inspiring breakthroughs in medicine, technology, sport and culture.

21st Century Firsts charts the rise and fall of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution. It features interviews with experts on the advances as well as with the ordinary people who were involved in these firsts, including the woman who was the voice of the first sat-nav. The documentary is directed by Christian Watt, produced by Louise Quayle and executive produced by Bridget Boseley. It was commissioned by Jo Clinton-Davis.

Daniela Neuman, managing director of Spun Gold TV, said: “The last two decades have fundamentally changed the way we all live, work and relate to each other. This ITV special commemorates and celebrates 21 years of extraordinary advancement for humankind, in an entertaining, roller-coaster of a ride.”
