ID Preps Special on Daniel Villegas Case

A Fatal Confession: Keith Morrison Investigates, a two-hour special that will explore the controversial confession of Daniel Villegas, is set to air on Investigation Discovery (ID) next month.

At the age of 16, Villegas took responsibility for a double homicide in Texas, and at 18, he was imprisoned for his supposed crime. A final trial was held 23 years after his initial guilty verdict in response to a call for justice for Villegas, who claimed that he was coerced to confess to the drive-by shooting, signing the papers and taking the blame for a murder he never committed.

Journalist and Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison, who discovered Villegas’ case in 2011, searches for the truth through new interviews and information in the special. A Fatal Confession: Keith Morrison Investigates, which was produced by Peacock Productions, premieres on ID on Sunday, July 7, at 9 p.m.

“At ID we have not only the opportunity—but, also, the mission—to share stories that otherwise might not be seen on a national platform,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. “Keith Morrison is an acclaimed investigative journalist who has told countless stories throughout his broadcast career and, accordingly, we are thrilled to have partnered with him in his efforts to bring the attention this case so justly deserves.”

Morrison said of the project, “The Daniel Villegas story proves that a caring and determined outsider facing the longest of odds can ignite a community, work to restore a future once lost, and inspire love along the way.”
