Former ZDF Commissioner Ralf Blasius Passes Away

Ralf Blasius, a former doc commissioning editor at ZDF and producer at Off the Fence, passed away unexpectedly in Mainz, Germany, earlier this month.

Blasius’s credits at ZDF, working on natural history and science programs, included Armageddon and Tsunami—A Wave Moves the World. He spent several years at Off the Fence, developing and producing series, and ran his own firm, k22film. Over the last two years he had been working on Expedition Europe for Terra X on ZDF, which premiered just a few days before his unexpected passing.

“Thank you Ralf for all the years we had the chance to work with you,” Off the Fence said in a statement. “For the many creative hours in which we worked on scripts, pictures and texts. For your ability to always think new and different. ZDF Terra X lost a brilliant filmmaker, the rest of us lost a wonderful person. Our hearts go out to your partner, baby daughter, colleagues and friends.”
