Channel 5 Commissions New Doc on the Queen

Channel 5 has commissioned ITN Productions to produce an eight-part series tracking Queen Elizabeth II’s rise and reign from her birth to her 21st-century rule.

Tentatively titled Elizabeth, the series will tell the Queen’s story through access to first-person and seldom-heard testimonials from those closest to her majesty throughout her life, alongside rarely seen archive material. Elizabeth is being distributed by TCB Media, which co-produced the series alongside SBS with Channel 5.

Lucy Willis, the commissioning editor for Channel 5, said: “This series will offer Channel 5 viewers a real treat and a unique insight into the Queen’s incredible reign from the close friends, politicians and members of the Royal Household, who have known her best.”

Ian Russell, the head of international programs at ITN Productions, said: “ITN Productions is uniquely placed to make this landmark series. The Queen is simultaneously the most watched and most private person in the world. This series will provide new insights into her life through rarely seen archive and also by talking to those closest to her.”
